Canisbay Lake Campground

Canisbay Lake Campground

On the shores of Canisbay Lake, just off Highway 60 near the Track and Tower Hiking Trail, this campground has a different setting than many of the other campgrounds in the park. The trees here are deciduous, making it a beautiful option for fall camping when the leaves are changing color. Most of the campsites are in forested loops rather than waterfront. The campground has a total of 242 sites, with electrical, non-electrical, and radio and pet-free zones. Despite the large number of sites, the campground does not feel crowded or even large. The loops are well separated, and many of the sites are well spaced. The abundance of leaves, unlike the sites dominated by pines, provide a visual barrier and block some of the surrounding noise of other campers. Most sites here are medium size.

Kittawa Camping

Kittawa Camping

Kittawa was founded in 1975. Its name was selected following discussions among the original group of French speaking owners. The final decision came when someone said the campground was ideal for those who wanted to leave Ottawa to holiday in the countryside. In French the word leave is Quitte (pronounced Kit in English). Merge this wiOttawa and the campground’s name KITTAWA was born.

We are situated on over 134 incredibly beautiful wooded acres complete with two manmade lakes that connect through two bridges. We even have our own island! We are located 2 kilometers from exit 79 on the 417 Highway and 35 kilometers east of Ottawa, Canada’s charming capital city. Calypso Waterpark is a stone’s throw away and only 1 kilometer as the crow flies.

In 1986, Mr. Paul Moreau purchased Kittawa and expanded from 60 to over 400 sites, 350 of which are full-service sites. With no advertisement, social media or website, Mr. Moreau grew this campground simply through word of mouth. Starting in 2017, Kittawa will be run by the Realffe Dagenais family. To all those who have been here before, all we can say to you is "WELCOME HOME"! For all others, we invite you to come camp with us this summer! We look forward to welcoming you and offering you a very pleasant and memorable stay.

Born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1938 and emigrated to Canada in 1949. I lived in Thunder Bay ON till 1955 when I signed up in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps. While serving and learning, I spent a few years stationed in Europe and a six month tour in the Belgian Congo. Retired in 1978 and worked for the Federal Civil Service till 1985. In 1979 purchased the campground and in 1985 decided to work at it full time. It keeps me busy and improvements are made each year to keep the campground up to par.
My hobbies include fooling with computers, both hardware and programming. I have managed to build a set of custom programs for everything in campground operations. I also have my ham radio license (VE3COL) which gets little use during the summer months of campground operation. I also enjoy listening to good quality music and relaxing to a good movie or documentary on tv.
